Pregnancy Prep No One Talks About

Preparing Mentally for Pregnancy Goals 🤍

As I share this journey with so many; so much of the pregnancy journey starts before a positive test.

While we often focus on vitamins, cycle tracking, and appointments, one of the most overlooked — yet powerful — pieces of preparation is mental and emotional readiness.

Preparing mentally for pregnancy goals isn’t about perfection or control. It’s about creating space for trust, compassion, and flexibility. I have learned the more we try to control, the more things seem to slip through our fingers. Learning to prepare instead of control can help shift your mindset to have your body and mind to work together; not against each other. Resilience will replace rigidity.

Release the Pressure

Trying to conceive can bring a lot of silent pressure — timelines, expectations, comparisons.
Give yourself permission to let go of “how it should look” and honor where you are right now.

You may be getting asked “So, are you pregnant yet?” “When are you going to have kids?” “You aren’t getting any younger, I want grandkids!” - While these all come from a good space; it may just add to the pressure you are already feeling.

Responses like these can help you navigate these heavy feelings: “We are taking this season, one step at a time.” “We’re letting this unfold naturally.” “So much is happening right now, we’re enjoying where we are.” “We trust our timing and what’s right for us.”

Gentle reminder:

Your body is not behind. Your journey is not late. Every cycle; every season is part of your story.

Set Intentions, Not Ultimatums

Instead of rigid goals, try intentions:

  • I intend to listen to my body

  • I intend to support my nervous system

  • I intend to approach this season with patience

  • I will give myself grace

Intentions leave room for growth and grace — especially in a season that can feel uncertain.

Tend to Your Nervous System

Mental preparation isn’t just mindset — it’s physiological.

  • Prioritize rest

  • Limit stress where possible

  • Practice grounding (walks, breath work, journaling, prayer, meditation, reading)

  • Nourish and hydrate your body

A regulated nervous system supports hormonal balance, emotional resilience, and overall well-being.

Acknowledge Past Experiences

Whether you’re carrying excitement, fear, loss, or mixed emotions — all are valid.
You don’t have to “be positive” all the time to be prepared.

Support can look like:

  • Talking with a trusted provider

  • Therapy or counseling

  • Doula support before pregnancy begins

  • Leaning on your village and surrendering to allow help in

Remember: You’re Allowed to Be Both Hopeful and Human

Preparing mentally for pregnancy goals means allowing space for hope and uncertainty.

Joy and Fear…...Hope and Patience…..Planning and Surrender…..Peace and Anticipation

You don’t need to have it all figured out — you just need to meet yourself with kindness.

If you’re in this season, you’re not alone. 🤍 I am here.
